A cat named Scout was minding her own,

When a mouse scuttled by, on a mission unknown.

Scout blinked twice, as she was taken aback,

But thought that a mouse makes a mighty fine snack.

So she hunkered down and readied to chase,

Then wiggled her bum, pounced, and followed apace.

The mouse disappeared through a hole in the wall,

But Scout showed no signs of stopping at all.

She barrelled up to the gap, still intent on her goal,

And her head went through, right into the hole.

The problem was, with the speed which she struck,

When she tried to back up, she found she was stuck!

Little mouse laughed, because the case with Scout,

Was that she couldn’t get in and she couldn’t get out.

“Right” said Miss Mouse, “first, Dilly is my name,

“And how dare you chase me, my life’s not a game.

“You may be a hunter, and you may be a cat,

“But it’s my home as well, so think about that.”

“What now?” thought Dilly, “I can’t go and roam,

“I should really welcome this cat to my home.”

“Well…” muttered Scout, “what shall we do?”

“I know!” said Dilly, “I’ll make cream tea for two”.

So scones, cream cakes, and sandwiches done,

And Scout was still stuck, not having much fun.

Cake stands and tea sets, sugar on the side,

On her little table, Dilly served up with pride.

Scout didn’t know what was happening in front,

Or how this had come to be part of her hunt.

Not sure what to do or not wishing to be rude,

She delicately licked, as she sampled the food.

And finding it tasty, she tucked right in,

Getting tea on the floor and crumbs on her chin.

“What a treat,” said Scout, “you’re incredibly kind,

“You have such talent, to make food so refined.”

Dilly sat and she sipped from her best china cup,

She found it quite novel, Scout not acting up.

The two nibbled on, til they could nibble no more,

Then both heard the sound, of a key in the door.

Dad was home! He may come over and help,

So with her head in the wall, Scout let out a yelp.

Dad rushed over, and got on his knees,

To pull her out of the hole, by tiny degrees.

Dilly watched on as Scout’s head was retreating,

“Thank you young puss, I’ve enjoyed our meeting!”

“Likewise” said Scout, “It’s been a pleasant surprise!”

Then they smiled at each other, and said their goodbyes.

One final tug, and Dad freed poor Scout,

With an audible “Pop!” as her head slipped out.

So the day carried on, for her and wee Dill,

Mouse snoozed in hole, cat barrelled around still.

But Dad wondered about Scout, or so I suppose,

For he never found why there was cream on her nose.
