Will Worm

Hi

I’m Will Worm,

up here on the shelf,

eager to learn

- by educating myself.

Look very hard,

and you might see,

someone reading intently,

a book worm, that’s me!

I might read a story,

or a play, where I act.

Maybe a book,

that has interesting facts.

Please will you join me

up here on the shelf?

I feel, quite lonely,

all by myself.

We can sit here,

quite patiently,

waiting, for a Tiger

To join us for Tea.

Or maybe, someone’s

made just enough room,

for me, and you all,

to sit on her broom.

Who, I wonder,

who, could that be,

to make an adventure,

for you and for me?

Perhaps, she is missing,

a tooth in her smile,

and has a wart on her nose,

that’s been there a while.

On hops a cat,

who gives a nudge,

to a someone, who’s nameless,

who simply won’t budge.

“Shift,” says the cat,

“you’ll have to make room,

there’s loads of us here,

to fit on this broom!”

At last she’s moved up,

so we can pile on,

to go on a journey,

which is fun, from here on.

Right there below us,

in a forest so dense,

I see, a something,

That is, completely immense!

Is it a creature

with pointy, sharp claws,

and tusks that protrude

from its big jaws?

That’s a story, of which,

I’m sure that you know;

But for now, it’s

onwards and upwards we’ll go

“Hang on to your hats,”

says the lady up front,

“we need to go faster,

we’ve got someone to hunt.”

She hits a low gear,

then revs up her broom,

to make a loud VROOM

until we go ZOOM!

There are, hills and mountains,

to see below,

and a river of chocolate,

that twists, turns and flows.

Hang on a minute, I think,

We don’t want that.

Such an idea, Mr Dahl

Might make us fat!

….if we eat the chocolate that is.

That’s another good tale,

but, just for today,

we need to keep going,

and get on our way.

“Nearly there,” says the pilot,

“we’re about to descend,

it’s not too far now,

just round the next bend.”

“Fasten your seat belts,”

shouts the cabin crew cat.

Then suddenly we land,

in a cow pat!

Well, as you can imagine,

there’s poo everywhere.

It’s all over our clothes,

and we haven’t got spares.

“Smelly or not,”

says the lady up front,

“if you remember,

we’ve got someone to hunt.”

“Hold your horses,”

says the cabin crew cat.

“I think it’s quite cruel,

to go hunting like that.”

“What?” says the lady,

with the wart on her nose.

“If it were a bear,

you’d change your mind, I suppose.”

“Nooooo,” we all shout,

to back up our friend.

“We want a nice story,” I say,

“with smiles at the end.”

“Fair enough,” says Miss Wart Nose,

“we’ll have a picnic instead.

Under that tree,” she points,

“but watch where you tread.”

She feels in her hat,

to find a great feast.

We lay it all out,

but then see a beast.

“Please don’t be frightened,” he says,

“I’m just a soft bear.

If you don’t mind,

may I join you and share?”

We look at each other,

and say, “Why not?”

Even Miss Wart Nose,

cares not a jot!

“Perhaps, it’s ok then,

if others call by,” says the bear,

“to help eat the sandwiches,

and that huge apple pie?”

Before we know it,

two more come along.

One small, with antennae

Another, big and strong

Of course, all are welcome

Be they, tiny or tall

Including that caterpillar

Who has just ate it all!

“Am I too late?”

comes a voice from behind.

I turn around,

to see, someone refined.

“Not at all,” I say.

“Oh, you’ve arrived, I see.

Well, aren’t we honoured,

to have a Tiger for Tea?”

“I hope it’s bone china,

to hold, my tea,” says the tiger.

“There’s nothing finer,

just the best, please, for me.”

“What on earth is that smell?” he asks.

A child shows him her shoe.

He peers at it closely.

She says “It’s cow poo.”

“Well at least it isn’t dog!” says the tiger.

“Because that really stinks!”

So he bids us farewell

And is gone in a blink.

Before you know it,

we are back in the room,

and we thank Miss Warty Nose,

for a ride on her broom.

Thank you, for, listening to,

a bookworm, that’s me,

and considering this version of

a Tiger for Tea.

I’m thumbing through book leaves,

now I’m back on my shelf,

and happy to be learning,

whilst educating myself.

Books can have pictures, books can have words

Books can have facts, about different worlds

So next time you’re keen, and eager to learn

Call and say “Hi” and the pages we’ll turn

From Will.
