Atty and the Stars

Although he was tucked snuggly and cosily under his bedcovers, little Atty was fidgeting and struggling to sleep.

‘I just don’t know what to dream about,' he said to his dad when he came into his room and sat on Atty's bed.

‘I think I know what will help,’ his dad said with a kind smile. He opened Atty’s curtains and pointed through the window at the stars in the sky. ‘See all of those up there, way, way above us?’ Atty nodded eagerly. ‘Well,’ his dad continued, ‘they are the dreams that have not yet been dreamt. Each one of them is waiting to be picked so they can share their magic!’

Atty sat up in bed and his dad turned to him.

‘All you have to do is choose which one you would like tonight. Take your time’. He smiled gently as Atty’s attention turned fully to the shimmering skies.

He gazed back and fore, his tired little eyes searching as hard as they could, and among all of the twinkles, there really did seem to be one star that was trying harder to get his attention. It seemed to be glittering so much that it looked like it was dancing.

‘That one, definitely that one!’ he squealed, pointing as best as he could to his chosen star.

‘Then that’s the one that was trying to make you notice it,’ his dad chuckled. ‘I think it has the most magical dream waiting especially for you.’

Snuggling back into his bed, his dad tucking him in tight, Atty was soon fast asleep.

That night, he dreamt of unicorns flying hot air balloons over dinosaur tea parties, while all the rest of the stars kept twinkling for those still looking upwards, still searching for their own dream to dream.
