A diverse group gathers, unable to resist the offer of a complimentary, lavish meal at Cassandra’s, especially as on Monday the restaurant will change hands.
Tom, the bank manager, is surprised he has been invited, given it’s his failure to assist with a loan that is forcing Cass to sell up. Pete, the local copper, wonders if Cass has forgiven him for having her favourite brother arrested for handling stolen goods. Lizzie rubs her hands in glee; no doubt Cass has forgotten all the times she tormented her as a kid, while Angela is hesitant given she stole Cass’s husband away from her, although Cass has assured her it’s water under the bridge.
Guzzling the exquisite vintage wine, relishing the delectable delights offered before them. The velvety texture of rich chocolate cake, infused with sedatives, promises to render them unconscious.
Two hours later, the incoming owner nods. Greasy fingers delve into his bulging wallet.
“I’ll take the lot, even the scrawny one. Her bones should do nicely for the soup.”
Soon those who have wronged Cass will find themselves part of a new, interesting menu. Served on a silver platter, an aromatic symphony of retribution. Could anything be more satisfying?
