Circus Of The Dead

Near the centre of our town
There lies a large allotment ground
Where locals say, in bygone days,
A circus spent their winter lays.
..
One day a fearful plague arose
That felled all beasts in deathly throes
Elephant and performing bear
No creature did the good Lord spare.
..
And soon the humans, they succumbed
Their bodies found there - cold and numbed
The locals feared they might be hit
So buried all in one large pit.
..
In time the circus memory passes
The land went fallow, turned to grasses
The young just mocked when told the story
And passed it off as old and hoary.
..
But on some moonless winter nights
Some have seen these ghostly sights:
They hear a hurdy gurdy sound
As man and beast rise from the ground.
..
The wraiths begin their circus show
In eerie iridescent glow
All hollow-eyed with ghastly frown
The circus has returned to town!
