I found myself with words on my tongue,

Ready and waiting to be whispered or sung,

But before I spoke I saw something unfair,

They were words unknown that I hadn’t put there,

From whence they came I was entirely unsure,

But knew at once their intentions weren’t pure,

That strangers or friends or those I hold dear,

Had put words in my mouth, that much was clear.

I looked at them now and chose with a frown,

To keep them unspoken and swallow them down,

Then I sat and I wondered with my thoughts alone,

About how to replace these words with my own,

I’ll use kindness and love and some softness and truth,

With hints of wisdom belying my youth,

Because into your mouth, they might find their way,

And I want you to have something lovely to say.
