Arthur was an incredibly efficient robber in his city; nevertheless, something extremely strange could be seen in him – he had an incredibly vivid imagination.
Every time he picked a silver necklace, he felt like being hugged by a ghost grandma. Every time he put in his pocket a golden watch, he heard its ticking when people were late for their first date. Midnight came and he already collected enough treasure but his heart was very heavy. Then, Arthur started the "un-heist". For several hours before the sunrise, he opened all the doors he had unlocked before, went in, and put things where they belonged: the locket was back to its lace doily, the watch was lying on its nightstand. Even a tiny copper coin went into a child's piggy bank.
Finally, Arthur climbed up onto the roof, having emptied his pockets and his soul at the same time. Yet, as he reached his own small apartment, he saw that the front door was completely broken down.
Everything had gone from his house: chairs, sofas, clothes, even his lucky boots. Arthur was able to discover a small handwritten note in the kitchen:
"I watched you tonight, Arthur. Yes, you were right—this guilt weighs a ton. P.S. I am not giving back the boots—they fit me perfectly. "
Arthur sat on the empty floor and chuckled. He was the best burglar in town, yet he had finally found his match—an even better burglar, one that would steal from those who no longer wanted what they had.
