It’s the first day of school. Isaac's mom ties one shoe while he tries to tie the other. He doesn’t know how; he’s only 6 years old. His mom takes his picture as he stands excitedly waiting for the day to begin. A little part of him is nervous, but he doesn’t realize it quite yet. After a quick drive, he and his mom enter the building. She walks him into Mrs. Janikowski’s room. He can’t say Janikowski, so he just calls her Mrs. J; he’s only 6 years old. She smiles and greets him and his mother. Mrs J shows him to his seat. His mom leaves the room after she gives him a kiss on the forehead. Without his mom there, Isaac looks for his best friend Tristen. He can’t find him. He doesn’t get too upset though. His mom told him this is the day he can make some new friends; after all, he’s only 6 years old.
It’s the last day of school. Isaac ties his own shoe. Isaac’s dad takes his picture on the front step while he acts annoyed. He is excited for the day, but it doesn’t feel the same. A big part of him is nervous for life after high school. He drives to school while playing his mother's favorite song. Or, at least, it was her favorite song; she’s been gone for 6 years. He enters the building for the final time. He goes to the first period. The class is watching the movie Cars. The whole class has seen it before, but it reminds them of their childhood. Isaac moves through the rest of his day. He gets to his final class. This class is english with Mrs. Marge. She is a very sweet lady. It reminds him of his late mother; she’s been gone for 6 years. The students spend the rest of the class recapping their favorite moments before the bell rings one last time. Isaac walks out into the hall. He’s happy for it to be over, but he's sad that it's coming to an end. He starts his car and waits for Tristen. He always takes forever. He takes Tristen to his house and goes to his own house where he finds his father sitting on the couch. His dad smiles as he walks into the door. He stands up and gives Isaac a hug. His dad then tells him “I have something for you bud, it’s from your mother”. His dad hands him an envelope. It says, “for the last day of senior year”. Isaac knows the handwriting. It’s his mothers. He couldn't forget it even though it has been awhile since he last saw her writing; After all, she’s been gone for six years.
Isaac sat down on the couch and carefully opened the envelope. He pulled out the letter and began to read. Tears began to form and roll down his face. His father patted his back as he reached the bottom. There was a part especially important to him. She wrote, “Isaac once you were just a seed. You needed me and your father to water and take care of you. Those days are over now. You have grown up and, now, you are a beautiful flower in full bloom out there for the world to admire.”
