There is an international institution called ZARA International College that provides scholarships to underprivileged students from around the world. These five young students earned admission through their exceptional talent, academic excellence, and determination despite coming from financially struggling backgrounds.

Each of them had experienced poverty in different ways.

Yuna often skipped meals to save money.

Omar hid his financial struggles behind confidence and humor.

Urvi studied under difficult conditions while helping care for her three younger siblings.

Tyler, an orphan raised in an orphanage, worked part-time jobs to support himself.

Hugo carried the responsibility of supporting his aging grandparents, who had raised him since childhood.

Despite their hardships, they all believed that education was the path toward freedom and a better future. Growing up, each of them thought that people in other parts of the world lived easier lives while they struggled to survive in their own. Yet none of them gave up. They remained eager to learn, explore new ideas, and spend countless hours reading books and expanding their knowledge.

Although they came from different countries, cultures, and academic majors, they rarely had opportunities to interact with one another. Their lives seemed completely different.

One day, the college announced a new course for the next semester called “Diversity of the World,” designed to help students understand societies, cultures, and realities across the globe. Curious and enthusiastic, the five students independently decided to prepare before the semester began.

When the semester ended and the holiday break began, most students returned home to spend time with their families. However, Yuna, Omar, Urvi, Tyler, and Hugo remained behind.

For them, traveling back home was an additional financial burden they could not afford. Instead of returning home, they decided to stay near the campus, earn money through part-time jobs, and prepare for the next semester.

Tyler had already been working at a famous coffee shop near the college. During the holiday season, the café became even busier, and the owner placed a poster outside announcing a vacancy for a part-time waiter.

At the same time, Yuna was desperately searching for work. She needed money to continue staying in the hostel during the holidays because the hostel fee was charged separately. Her previous part-time job had recently been given to one of the owner’s relatives, leaving her unemployed.

While walking through the streets searching for work, Yuna noticed the café’s vacancy poster. Without wasting a moment, she immediately called the number written on it and asked nervously if the position was still available.

“It is,” the owner replied.

Yuna rushed to the café immediately. The shop was crowded with customers, and the owner urgently needed help. Seeing her previous experience as a waitress, he hired her on the spot.

Despite being nervous at first, Yuna quickly adapted to the fast-paced environment and synchronized naturally with the café’s workflow.

Late at night, after closing time, the owner introduced Tyler to Yuna as her new coworker.

To their surprise, they discovered that both of them studied at ZARA International College.

That simple coincidence became the beginning of an unexpected friendship.

In the hostel, the students who stayed during the holidays were shifted into a single building to reduce maintenance costs. By coincidence, Yuna’s bed was placed beside Urvi’s.

Urvi worked as a part-time tutor for children in the nearby neighborhood. She was calm, responsible, and surprisingly warm despite always looking tired from balancing work and studies.

When Yuna arrived carrying her luggage, Urvi immediately stood up to help her arrange her bed and belongings. Their conversation began with simple introductions, but within minutes it felt strangely comfortable.

Perhaps it was because both of them understood loneliness.

Perhaps it was because both of them had spent too much time struggling silently.

Even though they had been studying at ZARA International College for months, neither of them had truly formed close friendships before. Yet after one small conversation, they connected naturally.

An unexpected friendship quietly bloomed that night.

Meanwhile, Omar and Hugo had started working part-time at a supermarket near the campus. Omar’s cheerful personality balanced Hugo’s quiet and thoughtful nature.

One afternoon during their break, Hugo noticed Omar eating only bread and water for lunch. Without saying anything, Hugo shared half of his homemade meal prepared by his grandmother.

That small gesture turned two strangers into friends.

A few days later, all five students independently decided to visit the college library to prepare for the upcoming semester.

The library was peaceful and filled with books from different cultures, histories, philosophies, and languages — a perfect place for students preparing for the course “Diversity of the World.”

Urvi sat quietly in one corner reading books about world history and social development.

After finishing their shift at the café, Yuna and Tyler arrived together at the library. While searching for books, Yuna noticed Urvi sitting nearby.

Excited, she waved immediately.

Tyler was introduced to Urvi, and soon the three of them began discussing their studies, favorite books, and future goals. Although they avoided speaking too deeply about personal struggles, the conversation flowed naturally.

By lunchtime, they decided to eat together outside the library.

Urvi opened her lunchbox shyly.

The moment the lid lifted, the rich aroma of freshly cooked food spread through the air. The smell was so delicious that nearby students instinctively turned toward them.

Even Omar and Hugo, who had been walking nearby after their supermarket shift, followed the aroma out of curiosity.

“Something smells incredible,” Omar joked while looking around dramatically.

That was how they first approached the group.

At first, the meeting felt accidental and awkward. But after sharing food, exchanging introductions, and laughing over small conversations, the atmosphere slowly became comfortable.

Food from different countries filled the table.

Different accents mixed together.

Different lives began connecting.

For the first time since arriving at ZARA International College, none of them felt alone.

After lunch, they introduced themselves properly and spoke more openly about their part-time jobs, hometowns, cultures, and the reasons they had come to the college.

Without realizing it, five students from completely different corners of the world had begun forming something much greater than friendship — a new family far away from home.
