A Fearless World

A young boy by the name of Simon was one with many fears in life. These fears were the standard ranging from examination all the way to handling responsibilities. Simon was envious towards his friends for their carefree nature and ashamed at himself for his lack of confidence. On one faithful night, Simon wished upon a star for a world without fear before drifting off to sleep.

The sun rose as the slumbering Simon was not woken up by his alarm clock, but by sound of shattered glass. Simon looked out of his broken window to witness the chaos in the neighbourhood. The barbaric fights that broke out, the sound of gunshots, and sight of hypodermic needles littered all over the streets. The petrified Simon rushed over to the house phone only to notice that emergency number was invalid. After several failed attempts, an assailant burst down the door and set their sights directly towards Simon. The adrenaline coursed through the veins of Simon as he lunged through a window and ran away.

Simon did not look back and kept sprinting forwards until he noticed the sky was darker than usual, he could have sworn it was morning. The air was also difficult to breath in and Simon rushed into the nearest building. Simon was met with lights that luminated the entire area and the squall of alcohol flooded into his nostrils. Simon was allowed into a casino despite being underage. That would not be the only oddity here as Simon noticed several children his age was gambling away their cash and drinking booze. The adults were not any better as they openly bet on everything under the sun without a care for their future. The uneasiness Simon felt was too overwhelming and he stormed out of the casino, but he realised that every other building was not any better as every block was just another gambling establishment. Simon began to run once more away from the betting houses.

The dark skies cleared as Simon kept running. After catching his breath, Simon found himself on the roadside with cars blitzing every speed limits and motorcyclists were performing stunts as natural as breathing. The speed traps were even made as a challenge to surpass. The worst was that children were happily playing in the middle of said road. The astonished Simon snapped back to reality as he pulled the children to safety as the vehicles zoomed passed without hesitation.

A blinding light illuminated the area as an entity with indescribable features that could tremble even the most stoic person. The embodiment of fear named Phobos had made his terrifying entrance. Phobos gave a display of a fearless world to Simon. A world with no order or integrity because laws would neither be followed nor enforced without instilling fear. After waking up to reality, Simon changed his ways when facing the challenges, the world offered. Instead of running away in fear, Simon faced it all with an open mind.
